Elmer Food Beat is a rock group from Nantes, France, formed in 1986. Their work is known for its raunchy lyrics.
They were the 1991 Group of the Year for the Victoires de la Musique awards.
In 1988, the self-produced 45 rpm EP "Elmer Food Beat" was released, on which we can find the first versions of the now iconic "Daniela" and "La Caissière de chez Leclerc". 6000 copies of the vinyl and the K7 were sold at the end of the concerts. A few derivative products - not yet called "goodies" - are distributed.
In the summer of 1990 with the title Daniela, Elmer Food Beat becomes a real phenomenon with its rock focused on the gaudriole. Manou, Kalou, Twistos, Vincent and Kelu made a "30 cm" leap from the name of their first album. It doesn't sound like much, but it's actually huge. He invades the airwaves with his edgy rock and saucy tone. Elmer Food Beat becomes the number 1 French band, an institution. "Daniela", "La Cashiere de chez Leclerc", "La Complainte du laboureur", "Couroucoucou Roploplo" or "Plastic is fantastic", used by the Ministry of Health to raise awareness of condom use, became anthems for the younger generation. People like it because it's alternative rock. The lyrics are self-explanatory. This is new. It's funny. It's transgressive and therefore enjoyable.
