A tenacity that commands respect, for a destiny that is like a fairy tale. Jennifer Jenesis Thames' astonishing career indeed gives the measure of her strong personality, or how a young black American from the proles of Detroit will end up registering her first album "Tell you what I know" in the top ten of the US Billboard in 2014.
In the city that is the headquarters of General Motors, ravaged by the crisis of the automobile industry, but also the cradle of Motown – a sign! – the singer trained in classical music and jazz at the age of 9 before moving to Mississippi where her father became a pastor. She made her debut with some blues legends before leaving to try her luck in New York. A hardship that will make her homeless before she is spotted singing in the metro. The real scenes will then follow one another when J.J. Thames becomes a backup singer for great bands such as Fishbone, Israel Vibrations or Bad Brains. His winning return to the South will materialize thanks to the bluesman Gladys Champion who signs him his first successful opus. Listening to her, one obviously thinks of figures such as Phyllis Hyman, Etta James or Tina Turner, soul divas of whom she offers a few covers with the rage of those who give everything with sincere generosity.
In "Raw Sugar", a new album released last year, the opulent tigress multiplies tempo changes by revealing the extent of her vocal range: gospel, R&B, soul shrouded in pop incursions, and unstoppable sentimental ballads with a sweet taste. For this second European tour, the lady has surrounded herself with French blue-soul musicians, most of them from the renowned Malted Milk. With multi-card drummer Fabrice Bessouat (Malted Milk, Nico Wayne Toussaint, Jimmy Johnson, Sam Taylor...), bassist Antoine Escalier (Pillac, Sax Gordon, Jimmy Burns), Cédric Legoff on keyboards (Malted Milk, Flying Saucers, Sax Gordon) and Yann Cuyeu considered in France as one of the best soul-funk guitarists.
She will make her debut with some blues legends before leaving to try her luck in New York.
