With Auguri, the choreographer and director of the CCN Ballet du Nord offers a large and powerful piece for around twenty dancers.
Confronting the raging elements, Olivier Dubois puts the “protean pack” of augurs into dance. Olivier Dubois took his time to "meet" the dance: it was not until the age of twenty-three that he entered the dance, first performer, then choreographer. He talks about that "wild desire" he had to dance at the time. From Angelin Preljocaj or Jan Fabre, for example. Auguri is a fresco that borrows from the divine and the pagan, a breathtaking dance, an "avalanche, lightning, thunder, tidal wave" which seizes the bodies. Carried by the musical creation of François Caffenne and the lights of Patrick Riou, Auguri promises to be a moving symphony.
Auguri is also the last part of Olivier Dubois' trilogy Étude critique pour un trompe l’oeil. During the last seven years he has created four pieces that make up this series, which is a search for happiness. The show features 22 dancers whose unbridled, explosive movements result in an outburst of joy and anxiety. Described as beautiful and intelligent, this intense production premiered at the Lyon Biennale.
Olivier Dubois – the enfant terrible of contemporary dance according to some opinions – has been the director of the Ballet du Nord – Centre Chorégraphique National de Roubaix Nord-Pas-de-Calais since 2014. Olivier, who has danced for choreographers such as Jan Fabre and Sasha Waltz, was nominated one of the 25 best dancers in the world in 2011. He has had an exceptional international career as a choreographer, performer and teacher.
