So far, Lora Juodkaite and Annie Hanauer have accompanied Rachid Ouramdane's work as performers. Beyond the physical performance that challenges the spectator, beyond the fascination that one can feel in front of their virtuosity - whether it is whirling or extremely meticulous - the choreographer seeks to capture from his performers the singular gesture, the one which, ordinary or not, makes us each be ourselves. The one that makes the dancer dance, and always talks a little about himself.
Here, two intuitive and sensitive portraits, which use neither testimony nor historical archives as in Rachid Ouramdane's previous pieces, but which capture these two women in the nude of their gesture, in their immediacy, in what they are intrinsically nourished by their life journey.
Two solos, two solitary presences that do not meet, but that coexist in the same space-time.
In an intimate and modest dive, the choreographer wants to capture the invisible, what the gesture says in everyday life about who we are, with the desire to give a glimpse of what reality impresses the dancer - who in turn becomes the author of his dance. To approach their state of presence without interfering, without wanting to find the key at all costs, to remain on the edge and contemplate the gesture that develops, feeds, moves, and then dies.
Being-to-oneself in order to be-in-the-world, and vice versa.
A diptych of portraits of women where the invisible emerges on the surface of the gesture.
Direction: Rachid Ouramdane (Conception & Choreography)
