Olivier Dubois' new piece, created in Cairo with six dancers from different African countries, evokes the weight of destiny and the journey of souls.
Touched by the commitment of the dancers he met in Senegal and Egypt, the choreographer was inspired by the culture of the African continent and held up a mirror to it. A choreographic big bang nourished by the dead and the living, Souls places life at the heart of its challenge. François Caffenne's percussive music accompanies these six men buried in the sand who resist, help each other or fight each other.
Powerful and intense, they rise from this field of confrontation, cover themselves like waves, plunge their gaze into those of the spectators. A slow march towards death to affirm the living, where each one explores his ability to carry his destiny, and that of the world. A masterful journey through tormented souls.
"Through death, I affirm my life. A slow and tiring crossing…The journey of our souls. Harbingers of my being life-givers and already revealing my death.
Souls may be seen as a long dance of death, unless it is the dance of a secret organisation: of destiny of fate…of determinism ?
This death as the soul of the world"
Direction: Olivier Dubois (Choreography)
