Jacky Terrasson, the most well-traveled of jazz pianists, is "a pianist of happiness" (Télérama). He is one of those jubilant musicians, capable of transporting his audience to euphoria. He has succeeded like never before with a big jam-session which could remind alumni of Norman Granz's Jazz at the Philharmonic in the 1950s.
He produced these first three albums as a trio for the Blue Note label (Jacky Terrasson, Reach, Alive). Then he devoted himself to several collaborations: "Rendez-vous" with Cassandra Wilson, "What it is" alongside Michael Brecker and Mino Cinelu. From 2001, he recorded for the Blue Note label: "A Paris" – a personal interpretation of French song standards), "Smile" (Best Jazz Album of the Year at the Victoires du Jazz in 2003 and Django d'or), and the solo album "Mirror".
This Franco-American has never ceased to enthuse us during his career: by his prestigious collaborations (Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dianne Reeves, Jimmy Scott, Charles Aznavour, Ry Cooder...), by his minimalist and energetic music forged with drummer Leon Parker and bassist Ugonna Okegwo on bass – a trio considered one of the best jazz trio of the 90s... And by this intuition, this openness to the discovery of future talents in his many bands (let's mention Eric Harland, Ben Williams, Jamire Williams, Justin Faulkner).
To describe his playing, Bud Powell is cited for his carefully controlled velocity, Ahmad Jamal for his sense of breathing but also his knowledge of French scholarly composers (Ravel, Fauré, Debussy). Melting under his fingers the inventions and colours of the greatest pianists of yesterday and today, he has created his own style, all in subtlety, freshness, ease and the desire to reinvent, again and again.
