Whether in Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Veracruz or Valparaiso, the great ports of Latin America have always been high places of meetings where rhythms and melodies of the most varied origins are brewed - music that musicians from Lupanars have traditionally been eager for to reinterpret in their own way. This is often how new styles are born, sometimes called upon to become the emblematic music of their respective ports, such as tango or cueca.
Bloque Depresivo is a Chilean group led by Aldo Asenjo, in parallel to La Floripondio and Chico Trujillo. The band is distinguished by reinterpreting songs typical of onion music, boleros, and Peruvian waltzes. Aldo Asenjo, leader of the group, explains that they chose precisely that musical style because it is "the type of songs that one finds at four in the morning in the bar that closes at last."
