On December 13th, 2013 the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra was founded under the direction of People's Artist of Russia Sergey Stadler.
The young ensemble immediately won the recognition of the St Petersburg public, who appreciated the diversity of the repertoire and the skills of the musicians, performing music from baroque to avant-garde, including works rarely heard in Russia. The orchestra performs at the best concert venues in Russia, including the Great Hall of the St Petersburg Academic Philharmonic, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire, the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall. Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, the State Academic Chapel of St Petersburg, the State Hermitage Museum and others.
The St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra regularly organises also large-scale educational concerts. Musical events include the grandiose projects ‘Tchaikovsky-Gala’, ‘Prokofiev-Gala’ and ‘Offenbach-Gala’ at the Alexandrinsky Theatre, ‘Three Stradivarius Violins’, a concert for the anniversary of Rimsky-Korsakov, ‘All of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concertos, All of Mozart's Violin Concertos, the cycle All of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Symphonies, participation in the festivals St. Petersburg Holidays on the Dvortsovaya and Blist Strauss in Pavlovsk and others. The Hermitage Theatre has successfully staged performances of Strauss's Die Fledermaus, Puccini's Tosca, Mozart's Don Giovanni and Beethoven's Fidelio.
The cultural life of the Northern Capital today cannot be imagined without annual projects in the Peter and Paul Fortress. As part of the marathon, the orchestra performed all Tchaikovsky symphonies (2014), Brahms symphonies (2015), Mozart's 12 symphonies (2016) as a completion of the ‘All Mozart Symphonies’ concert series, all Beethoven symphonies (2017), all Liszt symphonic poems (2018), all Schubert symphonies (2019), all Schumann symphonies (2020), and Haydn's 12 London symphonies (2021) in one evening. ‘Music Marathon 2017. Beethoven’ entered the “Book of Russian Records” as “the longest philharmonic concert with a program of works by one author performed by one symphony orchestra under one conductor”.
The St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra performs and participates in major international, all-Russian and city-wide events, festivals and forums such as: St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum; St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, St. Petersburg International Book Salon; celebration of the ‘Day of Slavonic Script and Culture’ and others. For ten years the ensemble has played more than 600 concerts in Russia and abroad.
