From the second half of the 16th century, court air underwent a policy of significant distribution and considerable production in France and abroad. It experienced a real golden age under Louis XIII (1610-1660), the regency of Anne of Austria (1643-1651) and the beginning of the reign of Louis XIV. A genre of popular origin (vaudeville), the court air has been adopted by social circles to sing all kinds of poems, from the most serious to the most saucy, including drinking and dancing songs.
